Recycling Lives has a number of training courses ranging from introductory courses to certificate and career developmental courses, catered for as part of its dedicated training Academy offering.

The Recycling Lives Terry Jackson Training Academy

Named after Terry Jackson, one of our founders, the site where Recycling Lives first developed and grew from in Leyland, is now a site dedicated to employees and future employees - The Terry Jackson Academy.

The Academy, the first of its kind in the recycling industry, is a dedicated space for internal employee training and development, also supporting offender rehabilitation through the Recycling Lives social enterprise.

Staff training includes management development, specific vocational and life-skill based courses, with sustainability modules designed to empower attendees addressing climate change both in the workplace and at home. Internal core programmes offer development opportunities for senior leadership and managers, employees and ‘Rising Stars’  identified as potential future leaders.

It will be used to induct all new employees as well upskill ex-offenders working with the business as part of the long-standing social impact commitment. The facility will also be used to support local employability schemes, educational establishments and skill enhancement schemes.

The Academy is about Recycling Lives’ commitment to the future.  It’s about growing employee talent and fostering pride to be working in recycling.  And specifically within Recycling Lives.

Positive Social Impact

Caring for people and those individuals in disadvantaged groups sits at the heart of Recycling Lives and, together with it’s commitment to the environment, forms the motivation behind everything we do.

Some examples of our social value programs:

  • ROTL roll-out – this program enables us to work with those reaching the end of their prison sentence and are Released on Temporary License. We support these groups into work across a growing number of UK locations reducing reoffending and providing an invaluable second chance for dozens of men and women annually
  • Extending our reach – as well as our support for those within and leaving the justice system, we work with veterans, people with mental illness, care leavers, and those at risk of entering the justice system as well as a number of other disadvantaged groups to help provide the right opportunities to create stability and self-sufficiency in today’s world

  • Community partnerships – from offering local unemployed groups training and work opportunities, to partnering with schools and colleges we work closely to help develop communities near to our UK side site network
  • Caring for our own staff – we invest heavily in welfare, training, improving diversity and making our operations a rewarding workplace to ensure our own staff are well looked after

The Impact of our partnerships

Our work is doing more than just changing lives for individuals, families and communities - between 2015 and 2018 it has created huge savings for society by reducing costs to the taxpayer and creating social value worth millions of pounds.
