Recycling Lives will be presented with a National Training Award (NTA) in the North West Medium Employer category at a ceremony tomorrow!
The ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday 28th September at the Recycling Lives Centre in Preston, will be attended by over one hundred people from reputable organisations including BAE Systems, Proctor & Gamble and Job Centre Plus. The Mayor of Preston, Councillor Bobby Cartwright, will also be in attendance!
The event will include a speech by Steve Jackson, CEO and founder of Recycling Lives, talking about the good work of the Recycling Lives Charity, as well as a number of NVQ certificates being presented to our hard working Residents – vulnerable members of society that are being supported by our charity. The event will then conclude with the presentation of the shiny NTA trophy itself!
The Recycling Lives training team were declared winners of the prestigious award last month following a strenuous judging process, which involved the delivery of a dossier of evidence in front of a panel of judges, an hour-long question and answer session and an inspection of our sites by two judges. After seeing the huge impact the training department has had both on the company and the wider community, the judges decided that Recycling Lives fully deserved the award.
Delivering top-quality training is a big part of the Recycling Lives ethos, for both the commercial operations and the charity. All members of staff take part in a number of training courses to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to operate safely. Training is especially important to the charity’s Residents, which include homeless and long-term unemployed individuals, as it helps them build up the experience and confidence they need to successfully return to full-time employment and independent living. Only last week, one Resident – fondly nicknamed ‘Sparky’! – gained a full-time job at Recycling Lives as well as his very own flat in Preston.
In addition, Recycling Lives has a chance of receiving the overall NTA Winners of the Year. The winner will be announced on 5th October, at WorldSkills London 2011. Fingers crossed!
Speaking about the ceremony, Robert Jackson, Training Manager at Recycling Lives, said:
“Receiving the NTA is a testament to the hard-work of the training team over the last twelve months. I’m very proud of the great things we’ve done for the company and the charity. The ceremony will be a celebration of the Recycling Lives training team and will be an opportunity to thank the many people that have been involved in its success. I’m very much looking forward it – see you all there!”
