Recycling Lives’ skip hire department got a case of the warm and fuzzies last month, when it stepped in and offered its services for free to help a charity event in Deepdale.
The “Big Guild Party”, held at the Catherine Beckett Centre in Deepdale Park, was a free community event held to raise money for a cracking cause: Derian House Children’s Hospice. The party attracted over 500 local residents on the day and featured a whole host of entertainment, including comedian Des Day, its very own ‘G Factor’ talent contest, Bollywood dancers, tombola, bouncy castle, circus school, magicians, music, food, and live performances on a Guild Hall stage.
An egg and spoon race between local police officers and fire fighters topped off the fun for the day, with the police officers receiving a caution for sticking their eggs down with tape!
Recycling Lives was more than happy to help keep the day clean and green as well as fun – the company provided a free skip to the event to ensure that the spoils of the day could be easily cleared away and recycled rather than being chucked in the bin.
Commenting on the event, Waste Manager Ian Drury said:
“The Big Guild Party was a great idea for not only raising much-needed funds for Derian House Children’s Hospice, but for bringing together the people of Preston in what’s proving to be a really special year for the city.
“While Recycling Lives has its own charity, we’re always happy to step up and give other great third sector organisations a helping hand – and we can’t think of many that are more deserving than Derian House.”
