Tar very much: Skipping along the road to asphalt recycling

It’s not often you hear about asphalt recycling, but the stuff that makes up the UK’s vast network of roads can be sorted, crushed and used again!

According to Demolition and Recycling International Magazine, the cost of asphalt paving materials – especially the oils required – means that there is a great need for new technology to recycle asphalt.

In a recent article, the magazine provides a review of a new crusher, the Powerscreen XH320X, which has been designed for high performance asphalt recycling.

The prototype was launched in late 2012, and tested in South Wales at a company called Crush Ltd; it performed well, dealing very effectively with mixed recycled asphalt, grinding it down into high quality finished products.

At Recycling Lives, we are delighted that advances are being made in this field. Waste should be viewed as a resource, and construction materials such as asphalt are no exception; in fact, it is especially important to recycle these materials, since they involve using expensive natural resources.

Our social business operates a skip hire service, and we know that one of the many reasons people want to hire a skip is to get rid of rubble and other garden waste, including paving slabs; people may also want to replace their driveways, which may be made of asphalt.

Whatever goes into a skip, we will ensure we separate it. You don’t need to worry about that; just throw it all in and we will take care of it! We can recycle 99% of the waste that we collect from skips, and we pride ourselves on providing our customers with convenience – and you cannot get much more convenient than same-day service!

Whether you are a domestic or commercial customer, it doesn’t matter. Give us a call and we will arrange the right skip for you. We provide a range of sizes from a small skip for home, to a 20-yard roro skip for up to 16 tonnes of soil and stone.

The skip hire service is operated to the same high standard as all our operations, which are rooted in Corporate Social Responsibility. We ensure we do the best we possibly can to add social value to local communities, and boost the local economy.

We also support a social welfare charity through our commercial operations. It helps homeless people to find work and accommodation, and gain skills through training courses so that they can progress along their pathway to independence.

As part of their support programme, they undertake work placements on our sites, which may include processing the waste that we collect with our skip hire service. So if you want to be environmentally friendly and charitable, hire a skip with Recycling Lives!
