A number of eager Recycling Lives employees have signed up to take part in running events as part of the Preston Guild celebrations later this year.
Preston has been named as the European City of Sport 2012, which is well-timed to coincide with the city’s Guild – a festival that takes place every 20 years and dates right back to the year 1179. As the only UK city that still celebrates its Guild, Preston is working hard to make this year’s event more special than ever.
Eleven sporty members of staff have already put their names down, with most staff members sensibly sticking to the half marathon in May, and one brave soul so far taking on the challenge of a full marathon in October.
In support of its staff, Recycling Lives is meeting half the cost of the entrance fees and providing the budding road-runners with t-shirts to wear during the marathons. Posters have been put up in and around the Recycling Lives in a bid to encourage other staff members to get their training shoes on and Clinton, a fully-qualified personal trainer who works in the company’s training department, has started up weekly training sessions to get everyone in shape.
The Recycling Lives runners will be working hard to secure sponsorship for their efforts and will be donating any money raised to the Recycling Lives social welfare charity, so they’re hoping that friends, family and colleagues will dig deep!
As well as the Guild marathons, Recycling Lives is looking to get involved with several more sporting events in 2012’s European year of sport, including a five-a-side football tournament and the annual Manchester to Blackpool bike ride. It’s set to be a fit year for the company, so watch this space to find out how training’s going for the budding sports stars!
