Recycling Lives secures Sellafield contract

Recycling Lives has secured a new partnership with Sellafield Ltd.

The recycling and waste management business has won a contract to process waste metal from the fuel reprocessing and decommissioning facility in Cumbria.

The social business is now set to create a number of jobs and open two new sites in the county – to manage waste collection and processing, and expand its highly successful charitable work.

Managing director William Fletcher said:

“Recycling Lives is pleased to have been chosen as the preferred contractor for scrap metal collection and processing from Sellafield Ltd.

“We’re really excited to be able to use this contract to create social value across Cumbria.

“The benefits will be more than just environmental and economic, as we create social impact through job creation and food redistribution.”

Recycling Lives contract delivery for Sellafield Ltd will see it open a scrap buying and processing facility in the Workington area – adding to its five sites across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the Midlands. The facility, which will bring a previously empty site back into use, will also be open to the public and other businesses from September.

The double Queen’s Award-winning organisation is also set to open its second Food Redistribution Centre (which bridges the gap between food suppliers with surplus goods and charities working with vulnerable groups) in Cumbria, with county-wide locations for charitable organisations to take collections of food.

Together with the new waste site, this Centre will also create work and training opportunities.

Martin Chown, Sellafield Ltd’s supply chain director, said:

“We are committed to ensuring our local communities derive maximum economic benefit from the money we spend at Sellafield.

“We do this by insisting that companies that win work with us invest to support local growth.

“Recycling Lives has these values at its core, and I’m excited by their plans to create jobs and support disadvantaged people in west Cumbria, as a result of winning work at Sellafield.”

Recycling Lives enjoys unique working relationships with its clients as it offers tangible social value as well as total compliance, excellent service and competitive pricing, allowing clients to demonstrate the social impact created by their contract.
