The Online Business Directory, a national online service that helps to promote businesses across the Internet, has made its home in one of Recycling Lives’ business incubator units.
Registered as a limited company in April of this year, The Online Business Directory has gone from strength to strength in a short space of time. The company moved into a small incubator unit at Recycling Lives around twelve months ago, but has moved twice since – once into a medium business incubator unit and, finally, into a large one, which is now a comfortable base for the company’s director Craig Easton, as well as four members of office staff.
The Online Business Directory was founded by Craig and his colleague George, who now acts as a silent partner while concentrating on a number of other projects. Craig, who is from Preston, has a background in IT, and was working for another online directory when he was approached by George to become a partner on The Online Business Directory. Bringing with him both skill and experience, Craig helped to build the business up from scratch, attracting clients from all over the country to advertise their services on the directory.
At present, there are around 650 unique companies listed on the The Online Business Directory, and another 200 waiting to go live, which demonstrates the level of enthusiasm that still exists for integrated online marketing platforms. What makes The Online Business Director unique is that clients are able to log in and alter their own listings, which allows the site to be kept up-to-date and prevents customers being frustrated by irrelevant or out-of-date information as is the case on many online directories. And the approach certainly seems to be working – Craig is looking to take on more sales staff in the coming months and is looking forward to hitting the 1,000 listings mark soon.
As an ethical start-up company run by local people, The Online Business Directory is ideally placed at Recycling Lives. The recycling and waste management leader encourages applications from new and local businesses, where all business incubators are fitted with energy saving LED lighting and provided with a full range of recycling facilities that help to boost companies’ environmental agendas. Funds from the business incubator units also help to finance the Recycling Lives charity, which offers an integrated six-stage residential programme to homeless and unemployed people in a bid to help them get back into work and independent living.
The Online Business Directory also has charity plans of its own – Craig is planning on introducing and integrated micro-donation scheme to the website, where businesses can choose to donate a pound from their listing cost to The Alzheimer’s Society.
Speaking about his plans for the future, Craig commented:
“We’re really happy to be based at the Recycling Lives Centre. The offices are great – they’re always clean and the security is second to none, with the electronic passes that allow us to enter any time of the day without the risk that someone will leave the building unlocked.
“The prices are very competitive prices and the team at Recycling Lives has always been really helpful, especially with us having moved offices several times. They’ve been quick to respond to any problems we have had, so we’re looking to take on another small incubator unit as The Online Business Directory continues to grow in size.”
With ever-increasing amounts of traffic and clients, The Online Business Directory is on the up and looking to diversify with niche directories and complementary services such as website design and an online brand consultancy for clients who don’t yet have a website. Recycling Lives is looking forward to seeing these next exciting steps and wishes The Online Business Directory the best of luck in the future!
