At a launch event on 15th June, it was announced that Recycling Lives have been selected as a Deloitte Super Pioneer 2015.
Deloitte is a professional services firm who collaborate with clients from across the world to provide audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, tax, and related services. The Super Pioneers is one of Deloitte’s flagship Corporate Responsibility programmes. It provides innovative social businesses access to a wide range of skills, experience, networks and opportunities across Deloitte. The programme is specifically focused on social businesses who are increasing employability skills and employment opportunities and who have ambitious plans to grow their business and scale their social impact.
Recycling Lives have a unique social business model, sustaining charity through successful commercial recycling and waste management services. Our services, which range from metal recycling to skip hire, are all centred around environmental sustainability; we have an ongoing commitment to diverting waste from landfill and finding new, innovative closed loop recycling methods. This, alongside the social welfare charity sustained by the business, forms our commitment to CSR and social impact within the community.
The Recycling Lives charity supports homeless, vulnerable and unemployed people to achieve independent living. Through a holistic six-stage process, charity Residents undertake a programme of work experience, training, skills development and personal support, with the ultimate aim of finding full-time employment and a home.
Recycling Lives also provide various employment services, working in partnership with charities such as Achieve North West and Shaw Trust to provide work experience and training to disabled individuals and ex-offenders. We operate a facility within HMP Kirkham, offering offenders the opportunity to undertake work experience and training, which helps them to find employment upon release and therefore reduces the risk of reoffending.
Recycling Lives have ambitious plans to expand our social business and charity, creating more employment for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals in the UK. With the support and expertise of Deloitte, we can expand the charity alongside business growth, creating more employment.
Steve Jackson OBE, CEO and founder of Recycling Lives, said:
‘We are thrilled to have been selected as Super Pioneers. Recycling Lives is at a very exciting stage in its development; we plan to expand our employment services nationwide, to create a more sustainable social welfare charity with a UK-wide reach. Recycling Lives will specifically focus on developing more social enterprises such as www.SkipHireNetwork.org and www.ScrapCarNetwork.org, and our new global fundraising platform, Careicon.com. With the support of Deloitte, we are confident that both our business and charity can grow, creating more employment for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals’.
