Recycling Lives' founder has received an award for Societal Impact at a leading event for entrepreneurs.
Steve Jackson OBE DL was handed the award at Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 North celebration on June 27.
He was one of six winners from businesses across the North West, North East and Yorkshire, chosen from a shortlist of 24.
Mr Jackson founded Recycling Lives in 2008, growing it from his family's recycling businesses in Preston but developing its model to include a charity and social enterprises and making social impact central to the business' aims and values.
Since then he has guided the organisation's growth as it has invested millions in sites, machinery and infrastructure and last year secured significant private equity investment from Three Hills Capital Partners.
His vision of creating a social business model has been realised through the growth of the UK's most successful offender rehabilitation programme alongside the rapid growth of the recycling business to become a competitive national player.
He said: "I think entrepreneurs are quite lucky in that they think slightly differently in terms of risk, opportunity and in finding solutions to problems. I’m a strong believer that business should think differently also, re-evaluating its purpose and overall contribution to the economy.
"Recycling Lives is a good example of a very proactive and socially-minded business and I am proud to be acknowledged for the idea and it’s achievement."
Mr Jackson and the other winners will now go on to represent the region at the UK finals in November.
