Job Purpose:

To manage the Recycling Live’s driver population, ensuring that we recruit, train and retain drivers who fit within our culture and represent the company values.

To ensure that the drivers are managed effectively and are capable of meeting the current and future needs of the business, whilst also delivering outstanding safety performance and efficiency of operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure drivers have been trained in the relevant Safe Systems of Work SSW and maintain the driver’s skills matrix
  • Support the Driver Training Manager in the accident investigation process and roll out of any corrective actions
  • Support the development and communication of a driver code of conduct
  • Ensure all drivers are legally compliant and reporting processes are in place for any issues
  • Work closely with vehicle licence operator to ensure driver compliance to standards HR management
  • Manage the driver recruitment process with support from HR and the Driver Training Manager
  • Improve driver retention by identifying the key reasons for leaving and correcting where possible
  • Managing the driver development/ training plans and carrying out annual appraisals
  • Identifying the drivers with potential and creating personal development plans for them
  • Performance Management- develop and monitor KPI’s for driver effectiveness
  • Manage the attendance/ sickness policy and carry out return to work interviews
  • Manage the team capacity and holiday planning to ensure that adequate resources are in place to meet the Transport Plans
  • Authorise payroll and over time and deal with queries
  • Set up and chair a ‘Driver’s Council’ to ensure a forum exists to give the drivers a voice within the organisation
  • Manage the driver induction process, including developing and delivering the transport specific items
  • Monitor and review the fuel efficiency of the drivers and ensure best practices identified and implemented
  • Maintain a driver availability schedule and ensure that adequate labour is available to meet the transport plan
  • Develop and implement a system for monitoring the quality performance of drivers
  • Ensure that any faults reported by the drivers are reported and appropriately solved
  • Working with external recruitment agencies and supporting HR
  • Working with Logan Logistics to ensure drivers are inducted into their systems and hire vehicles are registered
  • Working closely with the planning team to ensure that the transport plan is delivered and problem solving as problems occur
  • Reviewing and authorising weekly payroll, query resolution and general wage enquiries
  • Acting as an interface between the drivers and the maintenance team to ensure faults are reported and rectified in a timely manner
  • Supporting the Compliance team in accident investigation and corrective action implementation
  • Liaising with the Training department to organise driver training
  • Management of a team of around 36 drivers and indirect support to satellite site drivers
