Role: Plant/ Crane Operator (360 Excavator with Grab Attachment)

Location: Preston Recycling Plant 

Salary: Competitive salary dependant on experience

Hours:1 week early shifts, 5:00 – 13:00 and 1 week late shifts – 13:00 – 22:00, plus alternate weekends (Overtime available)

Due to an impressive growth over the last 12 months, we are looking for an experienced Plant Operative who can operate a 360 excavator (with Grab Attachment) to work at our Preston site.

Brief description

To operate a 360 excavator with grab attachment at our dedicated ELV processing facility in Preston. Must be hard working, reliable and trustworthy. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled grab operator with experience of the scrap metal recycling industry and, preferably, processing end of life vehicles

Duties and responsibilities

  • Operate plant and equipment that you have had formal training for by the company or hold a current nationally recognised licence for.
  • Follow Safe Systems of Work at all times
  • To work within and to adopt all H+S procedures that are in force at all the companies’ depots.
  • To liaise with the Site Manager on a daily basis to determine work loads for the day.
  • To inform management immediately of any defects that may cause any item of equipment to be either unsafe or unroadworthy.
  • To keep the yard clean and tidy and free from hazards.
  • Monitor all stock levels and keep the stock in an organised manner.
  • Supervise the regular daily checks required on the equipment and carry out the regular maintenance procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment e.g. greasing, minor adjustments etc.
  • To complete satisfactorily all paperwork as required and handed in to the relevant office e.g. Plant Check Sheets to Site Manager.
  • To inform management immediately of any changes to your operators/ plant licences.
  • Any other duty as directed by Site Manager / Operations Director

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes: -

  • Experience of operating a long reach 360 material handler with 5 tine grab
  • Scrap metal knowledge and experience
  • Experience of removing engines and handling ELVs with a grab
  • Health & safety and first aid qualifications desirable
  • An ability to work under pressure, solve problems and provide a consistently positive contribution to the team.
  • You will also: ensure high standards of delivery and customer service; be determined, resilient and flexible; demonstrate a positive attitude; and come up with ideas that add value
