Training to Training

The finish line is slowly coming into view as the first Recycling Lives building reaches the final stages of construction. The massive development stands proudly in the middle of the St Georges ward in Preston and the planned opening in early December is now more of a possibility than ever.

Construction began back in March of this year and RBL Construction has made steady progress, managing to successfully stay ahead of schedule in the early months. Good weather in the early stages of construction enabled RBL to get ahead and the development has stayed there ever since.

The development of the site began in January with the demolition of the site by Pete Marquis Demolition. The site had previously been home to Kedder Training before Steve Jackson (Recycling Lives Founder and Chairman) took a lease on the site and operated his successful number plate business New Reg from there. The New Reg operation has since been moved to new premises to allow for the construction of the first Recycling Lives building. The lease donated to the commercial organisation by Preston City Council and in turn a proportion of it to the charity now houses the new building and will be home to the Recycling Lives charity. The charity among many other things will offer a bespoke training and education facility from the new development and it is interesting to see how the life cycle of the space occupied on Kent Street has moved away from training and back to it again over the last 10 years.

Recycling Lives offers good Corporate Social Responsibility.

Recycling Lives operates nationally to provide a wide range of recycling activities to Local Authorities, commercial organisations and the public. Recycling Lives provides housing, training and long term employment in the recycling sector, to people who would otherwise be homeless; including ex-armed forces personnel, probation and those from chaotic backgrounds.

Each Recycling Lives centre provides up to 48 quality en-suite rooms; training and office facilities; incubator units for entrepreneurs in social enterprise; industrial space for our recycling processes and retail space to sell good manufactured by Recycling Lives from recycled waste.

We do not ask for, or rely on 'gifts' from you, as we always pay fair prices for scrap metal recycling, plastic and other recyclables. By selling your waste to Recycling Lives your organisation helps us to be sustainable and you to show good corporate social responsibility.

Our social enterprise 'manages' good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on your behalf, by ensuring that our recycling activities are carried out by employees that would otherwise be marginalised or even forgotten by society.
