Recycling Lives working with South Ribble Borough Council to improve communities.

Recycling Lives, in conjunction with South Ribble Borough Council, gave the residents from King Street, Lostock Hall and the surrounding area a free ‘roll-on-roll-off’ bin for their waste. Over 400 residents from the local community were invited to spring clean early and as usual we were expecting a good turnout.

Sue Simpson, Andy Cowley and Jason Stenson were present from the council to help the local residents fill the container and within the first half an hour the bin was already half full. Settees, mattresses, televisions, cardboard boxes and all sorts of other waste were coming from everywhere. One settee was being pushed along on a skateboard; others were being carried and pushed, neighbours were helping each other and even the kids were getting involved.

“It’s great to see people working together to improve their community” said Damien Snape, Project Manager, “ fortunately we sent one of our biggest bins, because at the close of play we had just about had enough room for all the waste collected”.

Immediately after collection on Monday 30th March the bin was weighed at 1.86 tonnes of waste collected, after tipping the waste in our waste transfer station it was hand sorted into different categories.

Each product type was individually weighed and recorded as follows:-
