The centre on Essex Street, Preston, Lancashire, is using a holistic approach, recycling metal, plastic and cardboard to create the revenue needed to provide a pathway of accommodation, education and support for the centre’s residents which will enable them to reach their ultimate goal of full time employment and independent living. During a recent tour of the facility centre manager Mrs Rebecca Wilson said, “We aim to guide marginalised people regardless of race, faith, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability and give them a real chance to change their lives and their communities for the better”.
The centre houses incubator units to encourage grass roots entrepreneurs and fledgling businesses, providing them with reduced rate accommodation and offering support packages and hands on advice from experienced business people. Recycling lives believes that by encouraging and supporting these business start ups, that strong, well managed, successful, local companies will develop, who in turn will employ local people and contribute towards the wealth and stability of their own neighbourhood. An increase in the growth and wealth of these communities will create a renewed sense of belonging; it will increase opportunities for all people, from all backgrounds and circumstances and give them the chance to build positive relationships in all areas of work, education, rest and play.
