The Recycling Lives development on Kent Street received surprising news from Preston City Council’s planning department when they decided to reject the use of natural aluminium as the final finish for the roof of the building.
Unfortunately for the Recycling Lives development this has lead to an increase in unbudgeted costs by approximately £5000 and the news is disappointing for all those involved. Not just from a monetary perspective but also the newly approved micro mat finish will be far less impressive on this industrial skyline, and subsequently misses the opportunity of creating an iconic impact that could well be a catalyst for future regeneration in the St Georges ward.
However, during the planning discussions, city planners confirmed their desire for a clear distinction between the roof of the Recycling Lives centre and its walls. Recycling Lives has taken this on board, in trying to put a positive spin on the bad news and have identified an opportunity to re-instate the iconic look. We have submitted a further request to the council planning department to define the building with the addition of our corporate colour to the roof fascia, guttering and downpipes. A response from Preston City planners is imminent and we are very hopeful of a positive reaction this time around.
