Environmental Policy

Statement

Recycling Lives Ltd operates six fully licensed sites in the Preston area, recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metal and also specialising in the handling of End of Life Vehicles and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

We recognise that our operations have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. As a consequence of this, the management is committed to continual improvement in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution. Environmental legislation and codes of practice will be regarded as setting the minimum standards of environmental performance, as outlined in our Site Licences and Working Plans. Specifically, we the business and the Operations Director shall:

  1. Aim to implement our policies through the ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System by April 2009.
  2. Use environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources to meet our needs. For example, we use waste oil to heat our electronic recycling warehouse.
  3. Maintain a sustainable environmental strategy and as such recognise our responsibilities to recycle materials wherever possible.
  4. Minimise landfilling; the nature of our operations means that we recycle automotive vehicles, electronic scrap and other metals. Where we dispose of our waste we will do it in a safe and responsible manner so to prevent pollution to land, air and water.
  5. Implement our policies through a dedicated training program. Various members of management and site staff have attended the CIWM’s Waste Awareness Certificate at the Centre for Waste Management at the University of Central Lancashire and are facilitating the transfer of best practice to other employees within theorganisation.
  6. Set environmental targets and goals designed to improve our environmental performance. Initial reduction targets have been set at 10% for tonnage to landfill and 5% in energy usage by January 2009.
  7. Co-ordinate route planning and delivery schedules to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
  8. Conduct an annual self-audit of our performance in order to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation as well as follow industry standards set for the treatment of End of Life Vehicles, and BERR for WEEE.
  9. Seek to publicise our environmental performance by providing information to employees, stakeholders and the general public. This information shall be provided in the Company’s literature and fliers, and be relevant to the target audience.
  10. Review and update this policy on at least an annual basis, or as appropriate to reflect the businesses changing requirements.
  11. The policy is available to all members of staff and the public through our website, reception areas or as may

Recycling Lives offers good Corporate Social Responsibility.

Recycling Lives operates nationally to provide a wide range of recycling activities to Local Authorities, commercial organisations and the public. Recycling Lives provides housing, training and long term employment in the recycling sector, to people who would otherwise be homeless; including ex-armed forces personnel, probation and those from chaotic backgrounds.

Each Recycling Lives centre provides up to 48 quality en-suite rooms; training and office facilities; incubator units for entrepreneurs in social enterprise; industrial space for our recycling processes and retail space to sell good manufactured by Recycling Lives from recycled waste.

We do not ask for, or rely on 'gifts' from you, as we always pay fair prices for scrap metal recycling, plastic and other recyclables. By selling your waste to Recycling Lives your organisation helps us to be sustainable and you to show good corporate social responsibility.

Our social enterprise 'manages' good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on your behalf, by ensuring that our recycling activities are carried out by employees that would otherwise be marginalised or even forgotten by society.
