Environmental Policy
Statement
Recycling Lives Ltd operates six fully licensed sites in the Preston area, recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metal and also specialising in the handling of End of Life Vehicles and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
We recognise that our operations have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. As a consequence of this, the management is committed to continual improvement in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution. Environmental legislation and codes of practice will be regarded as setting the minimum standards of environmental performance, as outlined in our Site Licences and Working Plans. Specifically, we the business and the Operations Director shall:
- Aim to implement our policies through the ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System by April 2009.
- Use environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources to meet our needs. For example, we use waste oil to heat our electronic recycling warehouse.
- Maintain a sustainable environmental strategy and as such recognise our responsibilities to recycle materials wherever possible.
- Minimise landfilling; the nature of our operations means that we recycle automotive vehicles, electronic scrap and other metals. Where we dispose of our waste we will do it in a safe and responsible manner so to prevent pollution to land, air and water.
- Implement our policies through a dedicated training program. Various members of management and site staff have attended the CIWM’s Waste Awareness Certificate at the Centre for Waste Management at the University of Central Lancashire and are facilitating the transfer of best practice to other employees within theorganisation.
- Set environmental targets and goals designed to improve our environmental performance. Initial reduction targets have been set at 10% for tonnage to landfill and 5% in energy usage by January 2009.
- Co-ordinate route planning and delivery schedules to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
- Conduct an annual self-audit of our performance in order to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation as well as follow industry standards set for the treatment of End of Life Vehicles, and BERR for WEEE.
- Seek to publicise our environmental performance by providing information to employees, stakeholders and the general public. This information shall be provided in the Company’s literature and fliers, and be relevant to the target audience.
- Review and update this policy on at least an annual basis, or as appropriate to reflect the businesses changing requirements.
- The policy is available to all members of staff and the public through our website, reception areas or as may
