Preston’s flagship Recycling Lives centre is making astounding progress and is approximately 4 – 6 weeks ahead of schedule. Good weather over the last month has given RBL Construction the ability to progress the building’s development considerably. The subsequent centre opening is getting nearer and the projected December opening is now more likely to be moved forward to November if the excellent progress continues. We are obviously conscious that a summer which rivals last year’s deluge of rain will delay the project’s completion; we aren’t counting our chickens just yet!
You can now make out each of the individual floors within the centre as the pre-cast concrete flooring is in place. The foundation substructure has now begun to be built and the block work at the base of the building can be clearly seen. Over the following weeks you will see the external envelope cladding, brickwork and window spaces begin to take shape as the building comes together to create the imposing new skyline of St Georges ward and indeed Preston City centre. We are hoping for continuing support from Preston City council’s planners in the approval of a recycled aluminium roof to finish the centre off. The bright aluminium roof, which will tarnish slightly over time, is preferred to the traditional darker grey industrial colour to match the wall cladding and help provide the iconic building we are aiming for, which will in turn be the stimulant for further ward developments.
