Waste management sector key in battle against climate change

According to a United Nations report released this week, the world’s waste management companies could have a big impact in the fight against climate change.
The waste sector is particularly well placed to cut its contribution to global greenhouse gas, according to a new UN report
“Waste and Climate Change: Global Trends and Strategy Framework“, prepared by the UN Environment Programme’s International Environmental Technology Centre, states that the waste sector is particularly well placed to cut its contribution to global greenhouse gas (GHG), and even become an emissions saver.

Landfills emitting methane are considered the biggest contributors from the waste sector in terms of emissions, so we’re doing what we can to encourage the responsible disposal of waste.

Our recycling plants now total over 20 acres, with a combined permitted waste total of over 1 million tonnes. A new waste permit, recently awarded to the company by the Environment Agency, has paved the way for the installation of a £150,000 trommel screening plant, innovative flat panel display (FPD) line cabins and a new glass crusher. We are one of the first UK companies able to dismantle the mercury-containing FPD’s safely and in compliance with legislation.
In addition to this, we’re developing new ways to recycle and re-use previously unrecyclable, or difficult to recycle, materials such as glass and plastic, in the manufacture of many products for use by the building trade.
